Felt Seal

Felt seal is a sealing structure composed of felt rings filled in the groove of the shell.
In the contact sealing device, felt seal is the simplest one, it is widely used in low speed, normal temperature, normal pressure motor, gear box and other machinery, to seal butter, lubricating oil. Felt seals are also suitable for dust prevention, but should not be used as gas seals. When the felt seal is used as a liquid seal, the greater the viscosity of the medium, the better the sealing effect, and the effect of the felt seal is very poor for liquids with smaller viscosity such as kerosene. If coarse felt is used in the felt seal, the circular speed of the shaft is only allowed to be less than 3 m/s, and if high-quality fine felt is used, the speed can be increased by 2-3 times, but not more than 10 m/s. If the design is proper, and the hardness of the shaft is high, the surface light is good, and the lubrication is sufficient, then the felt seal can also work normally at a high speed of 20 meters/second in individual cases. The use temperature of felt seals is generally not more than 90 ° C, and the use pressure is generally an atmospheric pressure. The packing is sealed by winding the packing between the shaft and the housing (packing box), and then clamping with gland and screw. The packing seal is widely used in the sealing of various pumps (such as water pumps, vacuum pumps, etc.), and is used as a sealing device for liquid or gas media.
