(1) Temperature
In most selection processes, the temperature of the fluid is the primary consideration. This will quickly narrow down the options, especially from 200°F (95 ° C) to 1000°F (540 ° C). When the system operating temperature reaches the limit of the maximum continuous operating temperature of a particular gasket material, a higher grade material should be selected. This should also be true at certain low temperatures.
(2) Application
The most important parameters in the application are the type of flange and the bolts used. The size, number and grade of bolts in the application determine the payload. The effective area being pressed is calculated by the contact size of the gasket. The effective sealing pressure of gasket can be obtained from the load of bolt and the contact surface of gasket. Without this parameter, it is impossible to make the best choice among many materials.
(3) Media
There are thousands of kinds of fluids in the medium, and the corrosion, oxidation, and permeability of various fluids are very different. The selection of materials must be based on these characteristics. In addition, the cleaning of the system must also be taken into account to prevent the erosion of the cleaning fluid on the gasket.
(4) Stress
Each gasket has its maximum pressure, the bearing performance of the gasket with the increase of material thickness and weaken, the thinner the material, the greater the bearing capacity. The selection must be based on the pressure of the fluid in the system. If the pressure fluctuates frequently, you need to know the details so that you can make a choice.
